SQUID GAME

QUEUE DESIGN

THE PROJECT:

This project presents a conceptual queue design inspired by the globally renowned show Squid Game. The queue for the Squid Game attraction is designed to immerse guests in the hauntingly thrilling world of the series, transforming the wait into an integral part of the experience. Divided into thematic zones, each area deepens the connection to the show's narrative while building anticipation for the main attraction.

The Ground

The journey begins with the iconic Red Light, Green Light game. Guests step into a vast, open room designed to resemble the stark, playground-like setting from the series. The towering animatronic doll stands at the end of the space, its head slowly turning from side to side. Periodically, the doll announces "Red Light" or "Green Light" in its chilling robotic tone, freezing visitors in their tracks. Ambient sounds of distant footsteps and nervous whispers create an atmosphere of tension, making guests feel like players in the game.

The next section engages visitors in a test of wit and strategy. Guests encounter a sleek, modern area with touchscreen stations where they are prompted to solve a puzzle or pick a strategy within a limited time. The puzzles mirror the psychological challenges in the series, blending logic with a sense of urgency. Dynamic lighting and sound effects respond to the participants’ progress, creating an environment that feels competitive yet collaborative. For those observing, large display screens showcase the leaderboard, building anticipation as guests advance through the queue.

Interactive Zone

This zone brings a lighter yet immersive experience, offering a break in the tension while staying true to the show's theme. Guests enter a vibrant marketplace-inspired area where they can order snacks, including dalgona (honeycomb candy), through a dedicated app. Orders are delivered through an innovative vacuum tube system, with transparent tubing crisscrossing the room in intricate patterns. The whizzing sound of food packages traveling through the system adds a playful, futuristic touch, while the aroma of freshly made treats keeps guests engaged and energized for the next section.

Dalgona Zone

Guests are transported into the visually striking pink staircase room, inspired by the surreal, maze-like architecture of the series. The space is adorned with Escher-like staircases painted in vibrant hues of pink, creating a disorienting yet mesmerizing atmosphere. Guards in pink uniforms occasionally appear, silently observing the crowd, adding to the sense of unease. Soft, pulsating lighting shifts the ambiance, while a carefully orchestrated soundscape of footsteps and distant announcements keeps guests immersed in the mysterious world.

The Pink Room

The final stretch of the queue leads guests to a serene yet eerie recreation of a hanok, a traditional Korean house. The architectural details, including tiled roofs, wooden beams, and sliding doors, evoke authenticity, while subtle design cues introduce a sense of foreboding. Guests are invited to explore the area, discovering hidden narrative elements, such as notes or artifacts left behind by previous players. The ambient sound of wind chimes and traditional Korean music contrasts with the underlying tension, symbolizing the delicate balance between tradition and the series' dark themes.
